What Students Say About
Richard Morris Karate

Training with Richard Morris has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. I really wanted to learn from someone who had a proven reputation and who specialized in self-defense. After careful consideration the choice was clear. Not only was there a world-renowned self-defense specialist in my area, he was also a 9th Degree Black Belt in both American Karate and Tae-Kwon-Do. I had been to some group classes and wanted something more personal. As a business owner my time was valuable and I wanted to train, yet my schedule was hectic. His attention to detail and his ability to teach at each student’s level is what sets him apart. As a thirty-year police veteran, Richard Morris teaches proven techniques that he has tried and tested in real life encounters.  He focuses on a principle-based curriculum that is designed to enhance each technique and gives each student the ability to learn at a much deeper level. I am now confident that I have the ability to protect myself, and my family, in these ever-changing times. I am grateful for his dedication to teaching others and sharing his years of experience with me. I strongly recommend that you train with Richard if you get the opportunity!

It has been my great pleasure to train in the martial arts under Grandmaster Richard Morris. By participating with private instruction I have been able to advance at my own pace and have obtained my 3rd degree black belt. This has been a life-changing event for me. Mr. Morris utilizes the effective time management and individual course participation, this enabling you, the student, to advance in your skills in a timely fashion. With Mr. Morris’s history in martial arts he has the contacts, experience, and the skills to offer you the individual experience of your martial arts lifetime.

Grandmaster Richard Morris taught me many things: that my perceived weaknesses (being small and female) were actually strengths, that I must be prepared for any threatening situation, and that regardless of my belt rank I will always be a student and must continue to learn. His breadth of knowledge and strength are exceeded only by his humility and kindness.   I am proud to be his student.

Four important aspects of Richard Morris' martial arts training distinguish his teaching methods: First, Richard understands the biomechanics of fighting.  Because I am a physician, I appreciate the physics, anatomy, and kinetics on which Richard bases his instruction.  Biomechanics are essential to understanding the martial arts, because martial arts utilize technique, not strength. Second, Richard's extensive training in multiple disciplines -- karate, tae-kwon-do, judo, jiu-jitsu, kickboxing, and western boxing -- allows him to integrate the best of each method.  His lessons are not mindless repetition of entrenched methods of only one discipline. Third, Richard customizes his lessons to his students.  Everyone has physical limitations.  Ideally, each student learns according to his own talents and abilities.  I, for instance, am old and small, yet Richard's training allows me to contend with individuals who are younger, larger, and stronger. Finally, Richard has the practical experience gleaned from years of police work in the rough sections of a major city.  He puts his theories to the test every day.

When I started training with Richard Morris two years ago, it was with the intention of getting some exercise and improving myflexibility.  I had no real goals in mind other than improved physical conditioning.  It wasn't long before I realized that my self-defense training with Richard had made a positive impact on my self-esteem and my attitude toward work and my relationship with others.  Richard is much more than a top ranked Karate master...he is also a pastor, police sergeant, father, husband, life coach and friend.  My son, Noah, has been training with Richard and me twice weekly for the past year which has provided us some true quality time together doing what we both have come to love...Karate.   The investment I have made in Noah's and my Karate training with Richard has been worth every penny.  My only regret is that I didn't start sooner.  Give it a try!!!

I have been a student of martial arts for 20 years. After a period of inactivity, I recently began working once again with my original instructor, Richard Morris. I was pleased (but not surprised) to learn that his teaching methods and techniques have improved dramatically- and they were state of the art at the time. I highly recommend Master Morris to any one seriously interested in obtaining or improving their self-defense skills. Added to that is the pleasure of working with a dedicated, highly ethical person.
